The Peter and Patricia Gruber Foundation honors contemporary individuals in the fields of Cosmology, Genetics, Neuroscience, Justice, and Women's Rights whose groundbreaking work provides new models that inspire and enable fundamental shifts in knowledge and culture.

Each award carries a gold medal and unrestricted cash prize of $500,000.

2008 Neuroscience Prize
John O'Keefe's discovery of place cells led to important findings in cognitive neuroscience, revealing aspects of learning that may be critical to understanding disorders such as memory loss.
 
2008 Justice Prize
Within the international justice system, Judge Thomas Buergenthal and Jerome J. Shestack dedicated their lives to upholding the rule of law and ending human rights abuses on several continents.
 
2008 Cosmology Prize
The ideas of J. Richard Bond and his collaborators on the nature and behavior of dark matter are responsible for important data being gathered by the world’s most sophisticated telescopes.
 
2007 Women's Rights Prize
Pinar Ilkkaracan and two organizations she co-founded, WWHR and the CSBR, succeeded in reforming Turkish laws towards gender equality and advancing human rights in Muslim societies.
 
2008 Genetics Prize
Allan Spradling's pioneering work on the fruit fly Drosophila is helping scientists better understand human development and disease.
 
Call for 2009 Nominations
The Foundation is inviting nominations on behalf of individuals whose achievements make them suitable candidates for recognition through the Gruber Foundation International Prize Program.
